Columbus, OH — This week, radical lawmakers at the Statehouse once again directly attacked LGBTQ+ rights. Instead of simply acting in the best interest of the Ohioans who elected them, 44 radical Republicans introduced House Bill 245. If passed, the bill would ban public drag performances under the disguise of “protecting children.” Making it crystal clear that Columbus will always be a welcoming home for all, Mayor Andrew J. Ginther denounced the bill and issued the following statement through his reelection campaign:

“Drag is art. Period. Moreover, there is no place for hate against any community in Columbus. For decades, I have fought against legislation that oppresses any population, especially our LGBTQ+ neighbors who face constant, direct attacks from radical lawmakers. Make no mistake, Columbus will continue to vehemently oppose and fight back against this and other pieces of hateful legislation stripping rights from any of our neighbors,” said Mayor Ginther.
